Struggling as an agency owner or freelancer? (CLICHE HOOK SORTED)
This is the only post about outreach you need to read today.
I’ve been on both sides: the nervous newbie sending DMs and the founder receiving them.
If sending that outreach message has you hesitating,
these five steps will make it easier than ever.
1. Do your homework: Instead of a generic “I love your work,” show you’ve taken time to understand what they’re doing and why it matters.
2. Give feedback or an audit: Offer valuable insight based on their industry or a recent project. Providing thoughtful feedback or a quick audit can go a long way.
3. Keep it short and impactful: Founders are busy. Be concise and get to the point quickly to maintain their attention.
4. Be authentic: Authenticity always wins over trying to sound overly polished or important. Be yourself; it resonates better.
5. Follow up (but don’t overdo it): A gentle nudge is fine. After one follow-up, let it go gracefully.
Pattern for a DM:
– A personalized line of admiration
– Their problem
– Your value add with a CTA
Example:
“Hi [Name], love what you are building, checked out your build in public tweets on X and I am blown. However, your website has 3 bugs. Let’s get on a call so that I can help you fix them? No string attached, love what you are building.
It’s that easy honestly. So just start!
